The Walleye Angler’s Trail has been invited to send a qualifying team to participate in the Angler’s Insight Marketing (AIM) International Walleye Championship scheduled for September 2 – 4, 2009 located on Lake Winnibigoshish in northern Minnesota.

All Pro Angler participants will have the opportunity to compete for the total payout of not less than $150,000.00 - based on a minimum 100 boat field. The payout will exceed $150,000.00 significantly based on the potential for 150 boats or more!

First place will win a prize package valued at over $65,000.00, including a minimum of $10,000.00 in cash and a Lund 2075 Pro V Boat and Mercury Verado motor package!

* Each member of a qualifying “Team” may choose to enter as a Pro Angler ($1500 entry) or Co-angler ($250 entry.) Cash prizes apply ONLY to Pro Angler entries. WALLEYE ANGLER’S TRAIL BANS
WILLOW CATS AS BAIT

The Walleye Angler’s Trail Tournament Director has announced that the use of the Willow Cat, as bait, is banned at its final two tournaments of the 2008 season (Lansing, IA & La Crosse, WI).

With the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources VHS regulations affecting the harvest of the Mad Tom (Willow Cat) from the Wisconsin waters of the Mississippi River and its tributaries and also its restriction of transporting live (fish) into Wisconsin to the listing of the Freckled Mad Tom as an endangered species by the Iowa DNR, the director does not want to put its members in jeopardy of violating State law and or DNR regulations, by allowing its use.

JAN & STEVE KOPP
2007

WALLEYE ANGLER’S TRAIL
TEAM OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to the husband & wife team of Steve & Jan Kopp from Dubuque, IA. who captured the title of “Team of the Year”.  Steve & Jan used their fishing skills to out pace the rest of the field in the hotly contested 2007 competition.

Jan & Steve proved that consistency was the key to success this year by placing 4th at the Dubuque tournament which locked up the 2007 title.

Jan & Steve also set the W.A.T. Big Fish record this year with Jan pulling in a 10.30 lb. walleye at our Eastman, WI. tournament in May.

WAT
GENOA, WI. TOURNAMENT
CANCELLED

Due to the prolonged winter with its thicker then usual icing, repeated snow storms and lack of sufficient thawing temperatures in Pool #9, I have found it necessary to cancel the Genoa, WI. Tournament scheduled for Mar. 16, 2008.  Conditions on the river, at this time, are not conducive to holding the tournament.

I wanted to make this announcement early enough to allow, those who are affected, sufficient time to change their plans.
